Coda Coffee Company, owned by Tim and Tommy Thwaites, is Maui Wowi Hawaiian’s exclusive coffee roasting partner. Coda has been roasting for eight and a half years and is dedicated to environmentally friendly coffee. Combining over 22 years of experience and skills working in the coffee industry, brothers Tim and Tommy came together to develop a concept that focuses on the quality of coffee. The brothers believe that coffee is a learning process and because they realize that a quality cup of coffee is ever changing, they are constantly finding new ways to make it better.

The company buys raw coffee beans from various regions around the world, including the Hawaiian Islands for Maui Wowi’s exclusive coffee line and brings them into the Coda facilities located in Colorado. After that, the coffee is put through different tests to ensure that it will be even better than the last batch. Immediately after roasting, the coffee is packaged up and sent to stores and vendors, such as Maui Wowi franchisees. Coda also practices the “Farm2Cup” program, which according to Tommy, is a way to ensure that you feel good about the coffee you drink. Coda guarantees traceability with every cup of coffee, meaning that they complete every step to understanding where the coffee comes from. For example, they spend time on farms all over the globe to recognize the full process of the coffee bean and ensure the quality of life for the farmers and their communities, as well as teaching them best practices to grow even better coffees.
The company also encourages the “pour over method,” which is a single cup brewing method designed to bring out the unique characteristics of the coffee by controlling the brewing process. Maui Wowi’s great tasting coffee comes directly from the Coda Coffee Company, including 100% Kona and the popular Kauai Blend. “Hawaiian coffee is great! There is a lot of care at the farm level, it has good sorting practices, and it ends with Coda and Maui Wowi’s extensive training to brew the best possible cup,” said Tommy.
